Higher Education

To improve reading and literacy outcomes for all K–12 students, RMC-Austin is committed to assisting higher education faculty in integrating scientifically based reading research (SBRR) into their preservice courses. Staff at RMC-Austin has extensive experience promoting collaboration among higher education faculty, including organizing faculty seminars, disseminating research-based materials to support teacher education courses, providing consultative assistance, and developing online collaborative communities. Staff members of RMC-Austin have been instrumental in the design and development of several large-scale higher education projects:

  • Higher Education Collaborative (HEC), a collaboration among faculty at colleges and universities throughout Texas
  • National Higher Education Collaborative (NHEC), which worked with select faculty and universities in Florida, New Mexico, and Washington
  • Reading First Teacher Education Network (RFTEN), a project focused on faculty at Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Hispanic-Serving Institutions, and Tribal Colleges
